The law encompasses both doctor-assisted suicides and euthanasia but a person who performs euthanasia or provide assistance in suicide must establish the presence of the following conditions. Firstly, the patient was statutorily competent while requesting for such assistance, in case the patient is 16 or below 18 years, has obtained consent of their parents. Luxembourg faced a constitutional crisis as the monarch of the country, Grand-Duke Henry, refused to sign the Euthanasia Bill into law on religious grounds. The primary factors that have influenced people in UK not to legalize euthanasia are the utilitarian role of governance and the inability of the government to control the violation of people taking life of other persons. In Luxembourg, Jean Huss, a member of parliament of the Green Party and the co-sponsor of the Euthanasia Bill had argued against non-legalization of euthanasia. He stated that conditions incorporated in the Die with Dignity law, shall permit euthanasia for people, who are terminally ill and with incurable disease that is making them suffer unbearable mental and physical pain[7]. Further, consent of such persons shall be mandatory along with the compulsory consent of two doctors and expert panels. The purpose of the Euthanasia Bill is not to terminate or kill somebody and neither for the doctors and parents. It is for the patients and only consent of the patient shall be final decision to put an end to his/her sufferings[8]. The central argument against euthanasia is that it might compel the old and disabled to terminate their life. However, the drafters of the Bill assure that right to die shall be applicable to those who shall use the option of euthanasia and not on others. Besides, Human Rights Act 1998, depriving a person to release oneself from unbearable sufferings shall amount to degrading and inhuman treatment[9]. From the above discussion, it can be inferred that the impact of legalizing euthanasia shall take into consideration of the impact it has on societal, governmental, institutional level as well apart from individual level. It is important to consider effect of legalizing the practice of mercy killing but also the impact such legislation would have on the society, values and societal institutions. The arguments in favor of legalizing euthanasia in Luxembourg is appropriate as it is based on the fact that despite the application of all possible measures to relieve the patient from his/her sufferings, the patient decides to terminate his/her life due to the unbearable pain, he/she should be entitled to be relieved from such unbearable pain[10]. While researching on this essay topic, I have not only gained sufficient knowledge about the concept of euthanasia and the legal impact of euthanasia on the society, its values and the societal institutions but also enhanced my skills in researching and writing an essay topic. The topic on euthanasia has enabled me to understand the difference in aspects in both the countries, UK and Luxembourg. United Kingdom considers the practice of mercy killing as manslaughter or murder, thus, amounting to criminal offence under the Suicide Act 1961. But in 2014, I won a scholarship to the Wesleyan Writers Conference, and this year I was honored to be an Artist in Residence at Trail Wood, the memorial sanctuary and former home of nature writer Edwin Way Teale. Ive thought about the difference between my prior attempts and my wins, and here are a few lessons I learned: Go local: FundsforWriters (FFW) often lists state- or region-specific grants - watch for them! Far-away locales dont necessarily equal prestige or a higher level of success. My motivations for going local were at least in part due to limited time and money for travel, but familiarity with the physical locations (both in Connecticut, my home state) and the local culture made a difference in terms of how I penned my applications, and, probably, how judges accepted them. Go niche: Even if your work crosses genres, take ownership of a specific writing category. When I finally figured out that nature writing was my thing, the tide began to shift. When I applied for the writers conference scholarship, my voice took on a more confident tone as I talked about my specialty. Again, FFW lists many of these niche awards for categories such as mystery writers, journalists, or specific demographic groups. Be yourself: In all forms of writing, genuine shines through. The Younger Years of Grace Murray Hopper Computer programming pioneer Grace Murray Hopper was born on December 9, 1906, in New York City. Her childhood and early years contributed to her brilliant career but also showed how she was a typical kid in many ways. She was the oldest of three children. Her sister Mary was three years younger and her brother Roger was five years younger than Grace. She fondly recalled the happy summers playing typical childhood games together at a cottage on Lake Wentworth in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Still, she thought that she took the blame too often for mischief the children and their cousins got into on vacation. Once, she lost her swimming privileges for a week for instigating them to climb a tree. Besides playing outdoors, she also learned crafts such as needlepoint and cross-stitch. She enjoyed reading and learned to play the piano. Hopper liked to tinker with gadgets and find out how they worked. At age seven she was curious about how her alarm clocked worked. While it wasnt proper at that time for a young lady to take an interest in math, she was allowed to study geometry but not algebra or trigonometry. Grace Murray Hopper attended  private schools in New York City where the curriculum focused on teaching girls to be ladies. She wanted to enter Vassar College at age 16 but failed the Latin exam, She had to be a boarding student for a year until she was able to enter Vassar at age 17 in 1923. Entering the Navy Hopper was considered too old, at age 34, to join the military after the attack on Pearl Harbor that brought the United States into World War II. But as a mathematics professor, her skills were a critical need for the military. While Navy officials said she should serve as a civilian, she was determined to enlist. She took a leave of absence from her teaching position at Vassar and had to get a waiver because she was underweight for her height. With her determination, she was sworn into the U.S. Navy Reserve in December 1943. She would serve for 43 years. Her younger years shaped her path to the computer programming legacy for which she is famous. Later in life, after her time in the Navy, she invented the Mark I Computer with Howard Aiken. Her early math talent, her education, and her Navy experience all played a role in her eventual career.
